Moscow last night モスクワ最後の夜

During my stay at my friend's home, I sometimes cooked breakfast for them, not especially Japanese, I just used what they had in their fridge. French toast, tomato omelette and salad and so on. They were still unfamiliar to them and my friend wanted to learn how to cook.

友人宅に滞在中、たまに日本食じゃなくとも食事を作ってあげた。ただ冷蔵庫にあるものを使って作っただけだが、フレンチトーストやらトマトオムレツ、サラダなど。それでもあまり馴染みのない味だったようで、どうやって作るのか聞かれた。

On my last day in Moscow I was asked to cook some Japanese dishes, I walked around the city trying to find some Asian food shop. Although there are looots of Sushi restaurants in Moscow and some other Japanese restaurants such as Udon shop, I was not able to find Asian food shop usually run by Chinese or Korean people quite easily seen in Vienna. I could have bought some very expensive ingredients at Japan shop, but I preferred to pick up usual things for cooking. Therefore I made curry for them which is still very unfamiliar to them. I brought a bottle of Gruener Veltliner with me, the most popular white wine in Austria.

モスクワ最終日、なにかしら日本食を作ってくれと頼まれた。街中を歩き回ってアジアショップの類を探すが、すしレストランやうどん屋さんなど、日本食が食べられるところがたくさんあるにもかかわらず、意外にウィーンによくあるような中国人や韓国人が経営するお店が見当たらない。日本食材を扱うお店で高い値段の素材を買って料理することもできたが、ありふれたものを使って料理をすることにした。それでカレーを作ることにしたが、それでも一般ロシア人にはあまり馴染みのないメニューだ。オーストリアからはとても一般的なグリューナーベルトリーナーを一本持ってきていた。

For salad, I mixed up sunflower oil they had at home for cooking and newly bought an inexpensive apple vinegar, added some pepper and herb. It seemed that it is also quite unusual for them to make dressing by themselves. They really liked that.
For desert I bought some yokan at Japan shop and served with Russian ice cream and coconut milk, which has a very natural taste of milk.

サラダ用に、彼らが調理用に使っているひまわり油とお店で買った比較的安いりんご酢を混ぜ、それに胡椒とハーブを混ぜてドレッシングを作ったが、これも非常に聞きなれないものらしい。とても気に入った様子だった。デザートには日本食材屋で買った羊羹とミルクの自然な味わい溢れるロシアのアイスクリームを添えてココナッツミルクをかけてみた。

Moscow subway station watching モスクワ地下鉄散策

In Moscow there are 10 subway lines that connect its city center and suburbs quite neatly and effectively. Of course there is also other public transportation such as bus or line bus, but I dare to say that subway network supports the convenience of living in this mega-city. As often shown in guide books about Moscow, subway stations in Moscow are really worth visiting for the beautiful decoration. The ticket costs 22 Rubles for one usage and it is valid till the last station. Around the entrance of each subway, there are lots of small shops selling daily goods till snacks.

モスクワでは地下鉄１０路線が運営されており、市内中心部と郊外とを非常に快適に且つ効率的に結んでいる。一般のバスや路線乗合バスのような公共機関ももちろんあるが、この大都市の生活を快適に過ごせるのはこの地下鉄ネットワークのおかげだと言える。モスクワのガイドブックによく書かれているように、その綺麗に装飾された地下鉄の駅は一見の価値がある。切符は1回の利用につき２２ルーブルで、最後の駅から降りるまで有効だ。どの駅近辺にもたくさんの小さい店が並び、日用品からスナックなどを売っている。

2009.08 round trip from Moscow モスクワからの周遊

A friend of mine asked me if I would like to join in a round trip to a city which is not very far from Moscow where there are lots of beautiful Orthodox churches. I said yes without thinking as usual for this kind of things. The city we based outself is Vladimir, then we traveled to Suzdal and Murom from there.

友人の１人から、モスクワからそれほど遠くない、綺麗なオーソドックスの教会がたくさんある街を見てまわる旅行に同行しないかというお誘いを受けた。この手の誘いにはたいして考えることもなくOKする。旅行の拠点になったのはウラジミール（Vladimir）という街で、そこからスーズダル（Suzdal）とムーロン（Murom）へと足を伸ばした。

I saw some icons in museums when I visited St.Petersburg last year and I read some resources and thought I somehow understood what it is. But this time, through my stay at a host family in Vladimir, I was able to learn much more about that what it means for usual people. On the last day, while we were talking about visiting one more city, the family so kindly offered to let us stay one more day because it might be too tough to go back to Moscow after visiting the city.

昨年サンクトペテルブルグを旅行した際に美術館でいくつかイコンを見て、いくらか情報を探して読んで、それで少しは理解したようなつもりでいた。でも今回ウラジミールの一般家庭に数日間お邪魔して、このイコンというものが普通の人々にとっていったいどういうものなのかをもっと知ることができた。予定の最終日、もう１つ別の街（ムーロン）にも行ってみたいなぁと話をしていたところ、親切にも、そこは少し遠くてその後モスクワに帰るには少しきついだろうからもう１晩泊まっていきなさいと、さらにもう１泊させてくれた。

This reminded me of my bicycle trip when I was a high school student. When I was traveling through Hokuriku area and asked at a temple if they could offer us the space under the roof for our sleeping bag and then they offered us (all three) a gorgious dinner with seafood and breakfast, moreover let us take riceballs for the lunch.

これで高校時代の自転車旅行を思い出した。北陸エリアをツーリング中、なかなかキャンプ場が見つからず、とあるお寺で軒先を貸してほしいとお願いしたところ、親切にも同行した3人に海の幸満載の夕食を振る舞ってくれ、畳の上に布団をしいてくれ、次の日の朝ご飯に続いてお昼のおにぎりまで作って持たせてくれた。

On our way back to Moscow, we saw a drunker was disturbing a young lady standing in the train. She asked him not to stand close to her but the young drunker seemed not to change his intention.
Suddenly a young man sitting at seat by her offered her the seat, stood up and block the man by standing between him and her. There occured a quarral and finally the young man with his friends sitting by him took the drunker out at the next train station and called police officer. It was really like a TV drama. His modest smile was very impressive.

モスクワに帰る列車内で、近くに立っていた若い女性に執拗に付きまとっていた酔っ払いがいた。その女性はお願いだから近くに来ないで欲しいと言うものの彼はまったく聞く耳を持たない様子。すると突然、女性のすぐ脇の席に座っていた青年が立ち上がってその女性に座るように促した。彼はその酔っ払いが女性のそばに来られないようにその間に立ち、そこで２人の間で口喧嘩が始まった。結局その青年が同行していた友人と一緒に次の駅でその酔っ払いを車外に連れ出し警察を呼んでことは収まった。まるでテレビドラマのようだった。その青年の控えめな笑顔がとても印象的だった。

When we left our host family, the mother gave me a small present, very pretty dolls with traditional Russian dress. I was so impressed by the hospitality of the family, I am sure that I will come back to Russia soon.

お世話になった家を去るとき、そこのお母さんがちょっとしたプレゼントを渡してくれた。ロシアの民族衣装を着たとてもかわいらしい人形。その家庭のもてなしにとても感動した。また近いうちに必ずロシアに帰ってくるだろう。

Moscow 2009.08 モスクワ２００９

The second time in Russia, this time I came to Moscow. I visited a home party held by couch surfing people in Moscow on my arrival day and I went there with my friend living there. The host was a funky Australian guy, Ben, who used to live in Japan and worked as a cook in Osaka. Of course in Russia, vodka and "da dna" (till the bottom)

２度目のロシアの今回はモスクワにやってきた。現地のカウチサーファーがホームパーティーを開いていたので、現地の友人と一緒に参加する。ホストは大阪でコックとして働いていたことのあるという、ベンという愉快なオーストラリア人。もちろんここはロシア、ダドゥナ（底まで）という合言葉で。




The second day I went to the Red Square, the symbol of Moscow or Russia. On the way I found a "udon ya san" shop and of course I was hungry and had "kakiage udon set" when a girl asked me if it would be "set" menu. I have never thought of having a Japanese set menu in Moscow.
It was much colder as I imagined, I regret not to take my long sleeve with me, on the second day it was around 18 degrees. I wish that summer is still there..

２日目は赤の広場へ。モスクワ、いやロシアのシンボル。行きすがら”うどんやさん”という看板をかかげたうどんやを見つける。腹が減っては散策はできない。売り子の女の子の”かき揚げはセットにしますか”という質問に、まさかモスクワでセットメニューがいいかと聞かれるとは。。。思っていたよりもずっと寒く、18度くらい。長袖のシャツを持ってこなかったことを後悔。夏はまだいるよなぁと思いながら。




On the Red Square there was a group of people that were singing and dancing after a marriage party, they all have Asian faces.

赤の広場では結婚パーティーの後と思われる一団が歌を歌って踊っていた。みんなアジア人の顔をしていた。

Czech Beer Festival 2009 チェコ ビール祭り ２００９

I have been working since five months without vacation, it was finally the time to take some. Actually I have been waiting since last year to join in this event, Czech beer festival held in Prague. Last year I was unfortunately not able to come due to business matter.I traveled from Vienna in 4 and a half hours...

この５ヶ月間、休みなく働いてきたので、いよいよ休みを取るときが来た。実際には去年から、プラハで開かれるチェコビール祭りに参加するのを心待ちにしていた。去年は仕事の都合で残念ながら来ることができなかった。ウィーンから電車に揺られること４時間半。。。



This festival started on May 22 and is open until May 31. It is told that one of the biggest gastronimic events in Czech. During my three day stay in Prague, the weather was very nice and hot. The event starts from 15:00 until 26:00 for week days, on weekends from 10:00. I did not have a chance to go there for weekends or I could have had a problem to find a place to sit, maybe.

ビール祭りは５月２２日から始まって５月の３１まで。チェコで一番大きな飲食物に関するお祭りのひとつらしい。プラハでの３日間の滞在の間天気はよくてとても暑かった。イベントは平日は午後３時から夜中の２時まで。週末は朝１０時から始まる。週末に行く機会はなかったが、おそらく席を見つけるのに苦労していたことだろう。



Each tent (there are six tents) has a different kind of sausage in its front. I am not really interested in that, it is almost the same as in Austria... And each tent has a different menu, line-ups of beer.

それぞれのテント（テントは全部で６つ）がその入り口に種類の違うソーセージをぶら下げている。個人的にソーセージにあまり興味はない。オーストリアも同じようなものだから。また、テントごとに違うメニュー、違うビールを取り揃えている。



Special coin for this festival, 5 Tolar = 200 Kc (1 Euro 28-32 Kc)　One 500ml Bier für 1 Tolar.

このイベント用に特別なコインが用意されている。５トラーが２００チェコクローナ。（１ユーロが２８～３２クローナ） ５００ｍｌのビールは１トラーで買える。



I found a bier mag for non-drinker　at souvenir shop ;) They even look very comfortable hanging under the blue sky.

お土産屋で飲まない人用のビアマグを発見。青い空の下、なんとも気持ちよさそうにぶら下がっている。



Whole beef and pork are rotating comfortably there. ;)

牛と豚の丸焼きも気持ちよさそうに回っている。 ;)

A very useful Japanese phrase, "Toriaezu biiru de" (beer for the moment) will never work here. Although you have mastered Czech phrase such as "pivo prosim", you will just receive a long long list of which kind of beer you want. Here is the menu from the first tent.

日本語のとても便利な表現、「とりあえずビールで」は通用しない。チェコ語の表現、"ピヴォ、プロッシーム"でもだめ。どんなビールがいいか長い長いリストで返ってくる。これはテント１のメニュー。



This beer ice cream, I should have tried it.

このビールアイスクリーム、試すべきだった。



I went to the festival three times during three days, it can be also called every day.

お祭りには、３日間の滞在の間３回行った。毎日行ったとも言う。
