The oldest in the world 世界最古の...

I had a short break before major vacation season will come. My visit to the beer brewery which is the oldest in the world: Weihenstephan in Freising, Germany. The city is very close to the Munich airport.

本格的な夏休みシーズンが始まる前に、小休止を入れて、世界最古の醸造所へお邪魔することにした。ドイツ、フライジングにあるヴァイエンシュテファン。ミュンヘン空港のすぐ近くだ。

The trip to Germany by train. I have an Austrian card with which I can use trains within Austria for free, it cost me just 28.5 Euro.


旅は列車で。オーストリア国内どこへでも行ける、オーストリアカードがあるので、旅費はわずか28.5ユーロ。

First to Munich, then change train to Freising. Not very far from Munich, on the way there, the landscape changes.

まずミュンヘンへ行き、そしてそこで電車を乗り換えてフライジングへ。近づくに従い、車窓からの景色が変わっていく。

From the station, I just try to reach on foot. The weather is very fine and beer should taste excellent in such the day. I just followed the sign on the street. I walked into a small path along a small river. There were lots of fish swimming in the river.

駅からは歩いて行ってみることにする。とてもいい天気で、こんな日はビールが最高にうまい。道にある標識をたどって行く。 車の入れない散歩道に入り、小川に沿って歩いていく。橋からはたくさん魚が泳いでいるのが見える。

It took me 40 minutes to come. On the top of a hill was the brewery and there is also an university just by that. Maybe professors (and students also?) enjoy their lunch there very much every day!

結局ここにたどり着くまで40分かかった。丘の上に醸造所がある。そのすぐ脇には大学が。たぶん、教授達は（学生も？）毎日ランチを堪能しているに違いない。

In beer garden were almost full with customers. I sat at a big table shared with other people. While I was waiting, a man told me that the table is without service and I have to fetch drink and food by myself. By the way, what a nice beer garden.

ビアガーデンはお客さんで一杯。他のお客さんと一緒に長机に座る。待っていたら隣の人が、ここはサービスなしの場所だからと教えてくれる。飲み物、食べ物、自分で取りにいかないといけない。それにしても居心地のいいビアガーデン。

I tried first pilsner beer to wet my throat after walk.

まず最初はピルスナーで、散歩で渇いた喉を潤す。

Then, I tried wheat beer, which I can find in some bars in Vienna, too, from tap. This can be the representative beer from this brand. Decent sweetness.

続いて、ウィーンでも樽から飲めるバーが数軒ある、ここのヴァイツェン。代名詞と言ってもいいかもしれない。 上品な甘味だ。

The group by me were in cycling suites, I asked them where they came from. Munich. They had some rest with beer here. Local people are very proud of their beer in Munich. Yes, absolutely true.

隣のグループはサイクルスーツを着ていたので、どこから来たのか聞いてみると、ミュンヘンからとのこと。ちょうどビール休憩の模様。地元の人たちはやっぱり、ミュンヘンのビールが最高だと誇りに思っているようだ。まったく異議なし。

Slowly I became hungry, I entered in the restaurant. The last beer I had here was 1516 keller beer. It was wonderful. Maybe the beer with their old recipe?

しばらくしてお腹が空いてきたので、中に入る。 最後に飲んだビール、シーズンビールだが、これがおいしかった。1516 ケラービール。おそらく古いレシピのビールだろう。

 

Berlin 10 years after １０年後のベルリン

It was exactly ten years ago when I first came to Europe; to study German and to find a job in German speaking countries. I did not know anybody in Europe in person, I had six months time to study German and to find a job. It seemed to be reckless but I believed that I would have a chance. It was the year after Carlos Gohn came to Japan from Michelin and became the president of a Japanese automotive company. There used to be a phrase "Keiretsu" suppliers which were only allowed to offer automobile parts to a certain OEM, and they were somehow "protected" by their OEM due to its solid order. Carlos Gohn first changed it and made a rule to procure parts from anywhere in the world if the quality and cost matches. It was a big chance for European automotive suppliers to contact to Japanese OEMs; the European market was already ripe and there was no huge possibility to expand. Acquiring new costumers in Japan should seem very attractive for them, there are many car companies in Japan. Under such the circumstance, I was sure that I was able to find such companies that need Japanese experienced engineer for their new marketing strategy in the market suddenly open to them.

始めてヨーロッパに来たのはちょうど１０年前。ドイツ語圏でドイツ語を学びながら仕事を探すためだった。個人的にヨーロッパに知人がいるわけでもなかった。６ヶ月と決めて、ドイツ語を勉強し、仕事を探した。無謀にも見えるかもしれなかったが、それでもチャンスがあると信じて。その年はちょうどミシュランからカルロス・ゴーン氏が日本の自動車メーカーに社長として来た次の年で、まだ、自動車メーカーには「系列」会社というものが存在した。他の完成車メーカーに部品を納入しないことを約束する代わりに、一定量以上の発注を約束するという取り決めがあった。カルロス・ゴーン氏は日本にやってきて最初にそのルールを変えた。世界最適調達。コストと品質が見合えば世界のどこからでも部品を調達すると言うもの。これはヨーロッパの部品メーカーにとっても、日本の自動車メーカーと取引をする引き金になった。ヨーロッパの市場はすでに熟成していて、それほど大きな市場の伸びは見込めない。それで日本の顧客を新規に開拓するチャンスができたことは魅力的だったに違いない。日本にはたくさんの自動車メーカーがある。そんな状況の下、急遽拓かれた新規の市場のために、日本の自動車会社での経験のある日本人を必要としている会社はあるだろうと、そう確信していた。

My time in Berlin ten years ago was not so relaxed. I knew every day how much money I had in my bank account and surely how good/bad I command German. I just started to learn intensively then. I once tried to find a job without even being able to speak proper German, then I understood that I had to be able to speak German first before I would look for a job. Yes, I really think even now that I studied hard from early in the morning to late at night.

１０年前のベルリン滞在はそれほどゆったりしたものではなかった。銀行口座にいくらあるか、それに毎日、銀行口座にどれくらいの残高があるか、自分がどれくらいドイツ語が話せるか認識していた。最初、ろくにドイツ語も分からないのに仕事を探そうとしたこともあったが、まずドイツ語が話せるようにならないことにはどうしょうもないことをすぐに理解してそれに打ち込むことになる。とにかく早朝から晩までよく勉強したと自分でも思う。

The first thing I wanted to see in Berlin was the Victory column, which I saw in the movie "Wings of Desire" before I came to Europe. I still remember that it was really very cold that day when I first saw the tower. The year 2011, it was extremely warm in compared to the year before, it was around 10 degrees.

ベルリンで最初に見たいと思ったのが、 ヨーロッパに来る前に映画「ベルリン天使の詩」で見た、勝利の塔だった。その日はとんでもなく寒かったことを未だに覚えている。２０１１年は例年にないほど暖かく、１０度ほどだった。

I booked a hotel near Spree channel which flows through Berlin, I did not plan anything to do and just went out and took a walk, or jog along the Spree to the Brandenburg Gate.

ベルリンを流れるシュプレー運河沿いのホテルを予約して、特に何をするという予定を立てるわけでもなく、散歩に出かけたり、シュプレー運河沿いをブランデンブルグ門までジョギングした。

Berlin 10 years ago was still under construction; lots of buildings were still being built there were many vacant areas in the middle of the city. Now I was able to notice the huge difference between now and 10 years ago. I was not able to recognize where I was; A new Berlin center station was built, Potzdamerplatz, Alexanderplatz and even Zoologischergarten looked completely different from as they were 10 years ago.


１０年前のベルリンは工事現場だった。建物の多くは建設中で、街の中心街でも空き地が目立った。今は１０年前との差に驚くばかり。どこに居るのか分からないほどだった。ベルリン中央駅が新しく建てられ、ポツダマープラッツ、アレクサンダープラッツ、それにツォーロッギッシャーガーテンまでもが１０年前とは全く違った姿になっていた。

Now I know that I just tried to concentrate studying German and I did not see many in the city. I did visit many places with my classmates but my mind was not surely there. I did not let me have time to take a walk in Charlettenburg.

今だから分かるが、ドイツ語を勉強することに手が一杯で、街をそれほど見ていなかったのだろう。クラスメートと一緒にいろんなところへ行ったが、気持ちはどこか別のところにあったに違いない。シャーロッテンブルグをゆっくりと散歩するような時間は採らなかった。

I visited many places in Berlin this time, but honestly I felt very relaxed and happy when I jogged along Spree almost every day without thinking anything. It was a very nice holiday for me. Maybe I have to think about my further 10 years in front of me seriously;what I can do and what I should do..

今回ベルリンでいろんなところに行ったが、正直シュプレー運河沿いを、ほぼ毎日何も考えないでジョギングしたのが一番ゆったり出来ていい気分だった。いい休暇になった。今後の１０年のことについてまじめに考える時期になった。何ができて、何をするべきなのか。
