Hidden mosaik 隠れたモザイク

We started our work to reorganize storage area where construction materials were just piled up, sweeping ground, removing soil dune on the flower garden. It was very fine today as yesterday, it should have been more than 18 degrees. Sun shined and no clouds, very comfortable to work outside to work in T-shirt. While I was sweeping ground and also stairs to the working tool storage, I just happened to find that there were mosaik buried at each step. They were not visible at all due to soil. I asked Carmela if she remembered who did each of them. Surprisingly she mentioned for each step so fluently children from which country did such as Belgium, Germany. That could have been long forgotten under the soil, I was happy to find it and continued to sweep the steps. They were very beautiful.

今日の作業は建築用の資材が積まれたままになっているところの整理整頓から始める。地面を掃き、花壇の土の山を避ける。昨日同様とてもいい天気で、野外のTシャツでの作業が心地いい。地面を掃き、そして物置への階段を掃いていると、偶然、階段部分にモザイクが埋められているのを見つける。上に被っていた土のせいで見えなかった。カルメーラに、それそれを誰が作業したかおぼえているかと聞く。驚いたことに、それぞれの段をどの国の子供が手がけたか、彼女の口からはすらすらと出てくる。ベルギー、ドイツなどなど。多分土の下に隠れていて長い間忘れ去られていたに違いない。それを見つけたのが嬉しくて引き続き掃き続ける。モザイクはとても綺麗だった。

Sergio wanted to buy a saw machine to cut wood, Ton accompanied Sergio to the city to select which one might be suitable for his usage. While I was working at steps, Carmela came out of the house to call us for lunch. I almost forgot time for that.

セルジオは木を切るのに機械を買いたいと言うので、トンがセルジオについて町に行く。階段のところで作業をしている時に、カルメーラが家から出てきて食事だと我々を呼んだ。ほとんど時間を忘れて作業していた。

For the lunch, we had pasta and bread, Carmela warmed horse mackerel from yesterday. I still cannot say pray without written text but it is now much easier to follow how others are speaking. Other Dutch members try to speak Italian much more than they did a week ago. They are European and have more chances to share information in common than I can with them for sure. I can know what St. Nikolaus day is, but I can never fill my memory in my childhood afterwards. This is the limit of the languages I learn which I can never manage. I was allowed to take two horse mackerels. While we were doing dishes, Carmela asked Evelien to feed cats and handed fish heads and rest of pasta we had. They have lots of cats and dogs, it is not so easy to feed only cats: dogs are also very hungry and try to take their foods. It was very fun to see that Evelien tried to let them go away but the dogs were trying to approach from the other side.

昼食はパスタとパンだった。カルメーラは昨日の鯵を温めた。まだ書いた紙を見ずにはお祈りの言葉を言えないが、ずいぶん楽に他の人と一緒に言えるようになった。オランダのメンバーは一週間前よりはずっと熱心にイタリア語で話そうと努力している。彼らはヨーロッパ人だし、間違いなく僕よりはイタリア人と共有できるものが多い。ニコラウスの日を知っていても、子供のころには経験していないことを後から埋めることは出来ない。ここが外国語を学ぶときのどうにもならない言葉の限界だ。鯵を２匹取ってもいいといわれる。食事の後で皿を洗っているときにカルメーラがエヴェリンに猫たちに餌をやるように頼み、魚の頭とわれわれが食べたパスタの残りを手渡す。ここには犬や猫がたくさんいて、猫だけに餌をやるのは至難の業だ。犬たちはとても腹ペコで、いつも猫用の餌を獲ろうとする。エヴェリンが犬を追い払いながら猫に餌をやろうとしているのは見ていて面白かった。追い払ってもまた別の方向から戻ってきて餌にありつこうとする。

I continued to collect pebbles and throw them to where the pavement should be built, others started work with sawing machine to cut wooden piece to nail to wooden fences so no children would be able to go outside of the fence and fall into the vineyards. We worked until it became completely dark.

小石を集めて道になるところへ敷き詰める作業を続ける。他のメンバーは電動ソーで、小さな子供が反対側のブドウ畑に落ちないように柵に打ちつけるための木の欄干を、すでにある柵に見合った寸法に切る。すっかり暗くなるまで作業を続ける。

For dinner we had a guest from Spain, a violinist. She was in Biancavilla to play in schools for the weekend. She only spoke Spanish but we were somehow able to communicate in Italian. For the dinner, small penne with chanpignon which I was watching how Carlimela cooked in the kitchen, baked potatoes, and scrambled eggs. We had also cheese from the Netherlands which one of the Dutch members brought. The pasta was great, I have to try it at home. Already mentioned for many times, al dente is the most important factor to enjoy pasta. Nice Sergio's wine, nice food and talk. What else can we expect at a dinner table? Lots of people may spoil the possibility to enjoy such the intense and rich time by watching silly TV programs or show. I did not have any Internet connection since I came to Sicily, I again found the importance of the real world. To keep in touch with old friends or friends in distance, such the tools are very useful. But I do not want to waste most my time in digital world, it is much more imoprtant to share time and meet them and talk to each other in face. Any way, I got a reason to learn Spanish seriously.

夕食にはスペインからヴァイオリニストのお客さんが来ていた。彼女はこの週末学校で演奏するためにビアンカヴィラに来ていた。彼女はスペイン語しか話さなかったが、イタリア語とスペイン語で何とか会話ができた。食事はキッチンでカルメーラが作るのをずっと見ていた、シャンピニオンのペンネ、ベークドポテト、それから炒り卵。オランダのメンバーの一人が持ってきたオランダのチーズも食卓に。パスタはとてもおいしかった。家でも試してみなければ。何度も言っていることだが、アルデンテがパスタ料理には一番欠かせない要素だ。おいしいセルジオのワインに、おいしい食事に楽しい会話。食卓にこれ以上の何を望もうか。多くの人はつまらないテレビ番組やショーを見ながらこういう大切な時間を楽しむ機会を台無しにしている。ここに来てからインターネットに繋ぐチャンスがなかったが、現実の世界がいかに大切か、改めて知らされた。もちろん旧友や遠くの友達とコンタクトを取り続けるのは大切なことだし、インターネットのような道具はとても便利だ。しかし大事な時間をデジタルの世界にばかりいることで無駄にはしたくない。なんとかして時間を作って実際に会って話をすることのほうが遥かに大切だ。いずれにせよまじめにスペイン語を勉強する理由が出来た。
