Hanami in Hakodate 函館で花見をする

Hakodate in Hokkaido. I came here by Shinkansen through the tunnel under the channel. Famous for squid. Not only squid, crabs, too. I enjoyed watching and tasting in the market.

北海道は函館。青函トンネルを通って新幹線でやってきた。イカが有名だが、カニも。市場での散策を楽しんだ。

 

Then I went to see cherry blossoms in Goryokaku park. Koi-Noboris are there. There was a long queue in from of the elevator to the top of the tower, I gave up to wait and then into the park. Snow-capped mountains and cherry blossoms in full bloom, the water in the moat reflects the blossoms. It was excellent!.

お次はお目当ての桜。五稜郭公園に向かう。五稜郭タワーには鯉のぼりが。タワーに登るのにどうも一時間ほどの行列があるようなので諦めて公園へ。遠景に雪をかぶった山、堀の水に満開の桜が映って、それはそれは綺麗!

I just go over the bridge to the inside of the moat. It seems that it is not allowed to eat and drink inside of the moat. It is more relaxed and can enjoy watching blossoms. It was very hot, above 30 degrees, this weekend should be the last to watch blossoms. I was here in the best time.

橋を渡って堀の内側へ。堀のうち側ではどうやら飲食が規制されているようで、ゆっくりと花を堪能できる。30度を越える暑さ。これだけ暑いと、桜はこの週末で終わりか。正に最高のタイミング。

Again being back to the outside of the moat, I found that people were sitting and doing baroque there. They lent grills and also sold ingredients and drinks. It was a nice service.

再度堀の外に戻ってくると、座ってバーベキューをしている人たちを見つける。バーベキューセットの貸出やら飲み物を含めた食材を売っていた。これはいいサービス。

I went up to the top of the Hakodateyama mountain by cable car where it is very famous for its night view from the top. Of course there was no night view but it was a great view.

ケーブルカーで夜景がとても有名な函館山に登る。もちろん夜景は拝めないが、素晴らしい眺め。

 

Neputa 2014 Goshogawara ねぷた祭 2014 五所川原市

This Neputa is famous for its size. Standing figure is built on the base, it is 23m tall. The city built a special building to keep the Neputa and made it a museum. After some years' absence, they started again this festival. They rebuilt electric wires in the city along the Neputa course for this huge Neputa. Every year they build a new one, and abandon the oldest one.

このねぷたはその大きさで有名だ。立ちねぷたと呼ばれるが、２３mもの高さがある。一時は中断されていたこの祭りは、市がこの大きなねぷたを3機収納できる大きさの博物館を作り、ねぷたの巡回ルートに沿って電線を張り直して復活させた。毎年新しいねぷたを一機作り、一機を廃棄するというルールになっているらしい。

My friend prepared a very nice place to watch the Neputa on the roof of a fish market and gorgious dinner.

友人が魚市場の屋上にある場所と豪華なご馳走を用意していてくれた。

Usually we should be able to enjoy three big Neputas, but due to the weather forecast? only one of them was on the street. Pity. First they let all out from the building and then gave two of them into the building again.

普通なら3機の巨大ねぷたを見られるはずなんだが、天気予報のせいか、そのうちの1機だけが使われることになった。残念だ。3機をすべて建物から一旦出し、2機をまた建物に入れてしまった。

Instead of this unluck, there were still some relatively big Neputas. The 23m tall Neputa is taller than most of the building around there, Neputa's head can be seen from us. When it came across the corner and appeared again, it was something unreal.

不運は不運だが、それでもかなり大きなねぷたは他にもあった。２３mのねぷたは周辺の建物よりも高く、我々の位置からは頭の部分が常に見えていた。通りの角を曲がって再度全体が現れると、なんとも非現実的な感覚におそわれる。

Neputa 2014 Hirosaki ねぷた祭 2014 弘前市

It was raining this day.  Maybe because of the rain, we were lucky to find free seats for us in front of Hirosaki station.

雨が降っていた。そのせいか、弘前駅前に空いている席を見つけた。

As Nebuta festival in Aomori city, which is the famous one, people are marching saying "Lasse- lasse- lasse- laaa" but here they say more aggressive and in masculine tone "Yaaa yaaa yaaa daaa".
In Aomori city, they have Haneto (hopper, jumper) who wares actually like girl, and this is actually the difference between Nebuta in Aomori and Heputa in Hirosaki.

青森市のねぶた祭では「ラッセー、ラッセー、ラッセー、ラー」と掛け声が掛かるが、ここではもっと荒々しく迫力のある声で、「ヤー、ヤーヤー、ダー」と、男らしい祭だ。
青森では跳人と呼ばれる人たちが女性の恰好をしているが、ここが青森ねぶたと弘前ねぷたの違いでもある。

On the sidewalk, there were lots of temporal seats built for watching Nebuta.

歩道にねぶたを見るための簡易座敷が作られていた。

Nebuta in the night looks much more gorgious, they march along the six lane street wanderung side to side to show off themselves to closedly packed guests on the both sides of the street.

ねぶたは夜の方が遥にゴージャスに見える。6車線の道路を幅一杯に使い、通りの両側にびっしりと陣取る観客に自分を見せびらかすかのように、左右に蛇行しながらコースを進んでいく。

Neputa 2014 Hirakawa ねぶた祭 2014 平川市

My volunteer friend who came to see me in Sendai asked me if I want to visit Aomori in Nebuta time, when I was in Japan in last January. I said yes.

１月に日本に帰ったとき、仙台に来てくれたボランティア仲間が、ねぶたの時期に来ないかと誘ってくれた。「来ます！」と言った。

Nebuta is one of the three biggest summer festivals in Tohoku. But I did not know well about it. There are lots of towns and cities and the one held in Aomori city is so-to-say representative of all these.

ねぶた祭は東北三大祭りの一つだが、実はよく分かっていなかった。たくさんの地域で行われており、その中でも青森市で行われているものが代名詞となっている。

My friend lives in Hirakawa city, to Aomori city is just 40 km. He arranged seats in Aomori city, Hirosaki city, Goshogawara city.

ボランティア仲間の家は平川市にあり、青森市までは４０kmほど。彼は青森市でのねぶた、弘前市のねぷた、五所川原市でのねぷた祭りの席をわれわれのために確保してくれていた。


Neputas (pronunciation is slightly different from city to city) in Hirakawa are mostlry so called fan-shaped, they are built so that the top part can be fold to pass electric wires around crossing.

平川市のねぷた（青森市とは発音が違う）は、いわゆる扇型と呼ばれるものが主流で、上の部分を折りたたんで交差点での電線をくぐり抜けられるようになっている。

We enjoyed around 20 Neputas on Ohayashi-music.

New Year Concert 2014 ニューイヤーコンサート２０１４

My Hungarian teacher got a baby and had a party in last December. There I got to know a woman via my teachers husband who plays viola at the Volksoper Symphony Orchestra. I asked her if she knew my friend whom I got to know in the plane back to Japan just before the New Year 2008 who invited me to the New Year concert by Volksoper Symphony Orchestra in Nagoya. They were friends.


ハンガリー語の先生が昨年12月に生まれた子供お披露目パーティーをした。そこで先生の旦那の知り合いで、フォルクスオーパー管弦楽団でヴィオラを演奏しているという女性と知り合いことになる。しばらく考えた後、2008年の正月前、帰りの飛行機の中でたまたま隣に座り、名古屋で行われたフォルクスオーパー管弦楽団のニューイヤーコンサートに招待してくれた友人の名前を出してみた。お互い友達だった。

世の中何て狭いのか！

She told me that she will arrange a ticket for me, but with some troubles she was not able to contact me via email; she lost a piece of paper I gave her with my email address, she asked our friend (teacher's husband) to forward her email to me, and the email was first forwarded to me on January 4th.

彼女はコンサートのチケットを約束してくれたが、トラブルが続いた。こちらからメールアドレスを書いて渡したメモを彼女が失くし、彼女が共通の友人（先生の旦那）に、僕に転送してほしいと送ったメールが1月4日になってようやく転送されて届いた。コンサートの前日だ。

I actually booked the concert ticket, too. I wanted to go there because my friend from 2008 would sing soprano again.

実際にはチケットを買っていた。2008年に飛行機で知り合った友人が今回もソプラノを歌うからどうしても見に行きたかった。

This time, two men and two women danced after music. It was a great concert.

今回は男女2人づつのダンサーがおり、音楽に合わせて出てきては踊っていた。とても素晴らしいコンサートだった。

After the concert, I met my friends out of the concert hall, them went to dinner with other band members, too. It was really fun.

コンサートの後、ホールの外で友人に会い、他のバンドの人たちも一緒に夕飯を食べにいく。それも本当に楽しかった。

New Year Celebration in Japan 日本の年越し

I had not been to Japan for 4 years for the New Year. Every year I was tired to hear fireworks with count down, messy street with litters and broken bottles on the New Year's day. This is the same in whole Europe.

正月を日本で過ごすのは4年振りだった。カウントダウンに合わせた花火に、新年早々通りに散乱する紙屑や割れたボトルには少しうんざりしていたところだった。こればっかりは、ヨーロッパのどこに行っても同じ。

For my French and Hungarian lesson, in last December, I wrote in the language how we prepare for the New Year in Japan. I let my teachers correct my text, but maybe they did not understand what I wanted to write; I know it is very hard, if they do not have similar idea in their culture.

フランス語とハンガリー語の先生に昨年12月、日本での年越しのためにどういうことを日本人がするのかを書いて添削してもらった。でも多分何を書いていたのか分かってもらえていないと思う。無理もない、自分たちの文化に似たようなものがなければ想像はできない。

In Europe, devil is always bad and the God is always good. In Japan this is not so easy; Oni, Japanese devil or demon is not always evil or bad. There are lots of Gods who did something very bad. There are demons work with human beings, or gods to eat human beings. The God in Europe is rather to admire and worship, in Japan to have fear and thankfulness at the same time. Buddha is rather treated similar to European God.

ヨーロッパでは悪魔は常に悪いもので、神様は良いもの。日本ではそれほど単純じゃない。日本の鬼はいつも悪者と言うわけではない。いろんな悪いことをする神様もいる。人と一緒に畑で働く鬼から、人を食べる神様までいる。ヨーロッパの神様は崇拝の対象で、日本の神様は畏れるものだったり感謝するもの。むしろこの意味では仏様がヨーロッパの神様に近い。

Churches in Europe and temples in Japan have a similar role in our life. But there is nothing like Japanese shrine which is the symbol of Shinto. This can also enshrine soul of (evil) gods to avoid their souls wandering in our world which will cause disaster. To visit shrine does not necessarily mean we worship the enshrined god. Therefore there are grave stones in temples, but not in shrine. Shrines only enshrine souls. We would pray for health, good harvest or success in business. Shrine is the place to keep souls, we have to purify our hands in the entrance, then mouth.

ヨーロッパの教会と日本のお寺とは同じような役割をしている。でも神社のようなものはヨーロッパにはない。神社は（悪い）神様の霊を鎮魂し、その霊が現世を彷徨い、災いをもたらすことを防ぐものだ。 だから神社に参ることは必ずしも祭られた神様を敬い崇拝するわけではない。祈るのは家内安全、豊作や事業の成功などだ。霊に関わる場所だから、神社の入り口では手を水で清め、口をすすいで体を清める。

Ohtsuchi-cho Akahama, Iwate 2 岩手県大槌町赤浜 2

After coming back to Austria, I got a postal mail from Mr.Y from Aomori. I worked him only for two days together at Akahama site, collected rubbledebris in a same team. For his last day, he told me that he wanted to go to see other site but wanted to join me at Akahama. When he took our pictures with his camera, he asked our postal promising that he would send us pictures. He might have thought that I was joking that I was from Vienna. But after seeing my address on his note, he told me that he had never sent a overseas postcard. I just told him that he could just write as I wrote down and maybe better to add "Europe" in Japanese, so that people in post office can seperate it correctly from ones to Australia.

オーストリアに帰ってきてから、青森から来ていたYさんから手紙を受け取った。赤浜で同じ班で２日間瓦礫出しをした。最後の日にどこか別の場所に行こうとも思ったらしいが、僕が行くところに一緒に行くことにした様子。Yさんは自分のカメラでみんなの写真を撮った後で、送るから連絡先を書いてくれとノートをまわしてくれた。ウィーンから来たなんて、冗談を言っていたと思ったんだろうか、後から僕の住所を見て驚いて、海外に一度も手紙を書いたことがないと言う。彼には書かれてある通りに書いてもらって、日本語で「ヨーロッパ」と書き加えてもらえれば、郵便局で間違ってオーストラリア行きに仕分けされないで済みますからとアドバイスする。

He asked me of many questions about Europe in the bus. I told him about my parents that first got their passport last year to come to Europe for their first overseas visit, and no reason to miss the best opportunity to visit Europe under current exchange rate. I just wonder how he will react when he FIRST receive a postcard from abroad. According to his letter, he should be now in Tono for his fifth time.

彼にはバスのなかでヨーロッパのことについていろんなことを聞かれた。 両親も去年ヨーロッパに来るために生まれて初めてパスポートを作ったことを話し、今のヨーロッパに来るにはお得なレートをみすみす逃す理由はないと。彼が海外からの始めての郵便を受け取ったらどういう反応をするのか楽しみではある。手紙に書かれた情報に寄れば、今５度目の遠野入りをされているはずである。

Ishinomaki Miyagi 宮城県石巻

On my way back, I stopped by at Ishinomaki. I wanted to see the city which Mr.O often mentioned while working in Tono.

帰り道に石巻に立ち寄る。遠野に居る間にOさんがいつも話をしてくれた。

Arriving at the station, they were waiting for me. Yes, here is the city Shotaro Ishinomori comes from.

駅に着いたらこんなものがお出迎えしてくれた。ここは石ノ森章太郎の出身地だ。

I did not take any picture of destroyed cities or streets when I was in Iwate. I wanted to take ones with smiles instead. I walked through the city and climed up to Hiyoriyama park where I had a whole view of the city along the coast. There is nothing more to say than that the part of the city disappeared. There we can see a huge heap of rubble along the Kitakami river. There were some groups of people with a local guide who explained the situation then.

岩手では壊れた街の一角や、通りの写真は一切撮らなかった。それよりも笑顔のある写真が撮りたかった。街を歩いて日和山公園に上る。上からは海岸線の一体がよく見渡せる。街の一部が消えたという感じ。北上川に沿って大きな瓦礫の山が見える。地元のガイドを引き連れたグループがいくつか。当時の状況の説明を受けていた。

Hiraizumi Iwate 2 岩手県平泉町 ２

From early in the morning I visited Chusonji and Motsuji temple. I actually brought my SLR camera for today.

朝から中尊寺と毛越（もうつう）寺を見学する。今日のために一眼レフを持ってきたようなものだ。

"The summer grass is all that's left of ancient warriors' dreams" This monument of famous haiku by Matsuo Basho can be foundat Tsuneyoshido where Minamoto Tsuneyoshi is enshrined. From there on, the old war site in a vast plate and along Kitakami river can be seen.

「夏草や、兵どもが夢の跡。」この芭蕉の句の碑は、義経が祭ってある高館義経堂にあり、そこからは北上川沿いの広々とした平野に昔の戦場跡が見渡せる。

For lunch, nobody can avoid Wanko-soba in Iwate. This is not the one that somebody sits beside you and fill your bowl with soba noodle but self service. It is said that just eating soba will make you bored, they serve also tempura and sashimi as Hashi-Yasume "chopstick rest", side dishes that would be eaten between main dish. Here the main dish means of course soba noodle.

お昼は、わんこそば。岩手に来ておいてこれを避けるわけには行くまい。ただこれは、隣におかありを入れてくれる人がいるタイプではなく、セルフサービスだ。蕎麦ばかりでは飽きると言うことで、箸休めとして天ぷらや刺身まである。

Then in Motsuji. Here is famous for Yarimizu, its water channel in the garden. After long time walk, I had zunda-mochi at a cafe. This is the one I discovered really nice in Iwate.

それから毛越寺。ここは遣水で有名な庭園があるところだ。歩きつかれてきたころに茶屋でずんだもちを頂く。これは岩手で見つけた逸品。
