3月11日の日本での震災の後から、出来るだけ週末にも働くようにした。今年の仕事はとてもたくさんあることは十分理解していたが、そのためだけではなく、何とか自分の時間を取って地域の人の役に立つことができたらと思っていた。一時残業時間の合計が80時間になったが、実際自分の仕事が終わったかどうかを見極めるのは難しい。というのも、仕様がころころ変わる上に、さらには仕様がはっきりと決まっていないものすらあったからだ。
In the middle of August I finally got a feeling that I would be able to take my vacation in November and I booked my flight to Japan for one month stay. Then I started to look for organization to join. I also asked my co worker in Tokyo office to apply volunteer insurance at a local social welfare center office. I was really surprised to know that there was still something which we cannot do via Internet in this century.
それでも、8月半ばには11月には休みが取れそうな感触が出てきて、日本への航空券を予約する。滞在はちょうど一ヶ月。それから受け入れ先を探すことになる。東京事務所の同僚に、社会福祉センターに出向いてボランティア保険の加入手続きを頼んだものこのころからだ。今時インターネットで手続きが出来ないものが日本にあるとは正直驚いた。
Where to go was the difficult question. First of all, not every organization will accept private volunteer worker. There were lots of arranged volunteer tour over weekends, for me such program is not suitable to stay there for a month only to work on weekends. I surfed in the Internet to look for information in Fukushima and Miyagi prefecture, I was not able to reach the site which seemed suitable for me. I also checked foreign organization. I thought that my Japanese skill would help them in a team.
どこに行くかというのは最後まで難しかった。まず、個人ボランティアを受け入れていないところが多数ある。週末だけの参加を受け入れるツアーなどはたくさんあるが、毎日作業があるところじゃないと現地に一ヶ月行く意味がない。福島県、宮城県などをネットでくまなく探すが、自分に合うところがなかなか見当たらない。海外のボランティア団体もあたってみる。日本語が出来ることが運営の手助けになるのではないかとおもったからだ。
Finally I decided to go to Tono Magokoro Net based in Tono city in Iwate prefecture. First of all, I do not have to care for my bed. I could have booked a cheap hotel for the period, but I prefer to stay with other volunteer workers all the time whereever.
結局行き着いたのが、岩手県遠野市にあるＮＰＯの遠野まごころネットだった。まず、宿泊先の心配をする必要がない。期間中安いホテルや民宿を手配することも出来たが、どんなところだろうが、他のボランティアと一緒に過ごすほうがいいと思ったからだ。
The Tono
Magokoro Net is a Tono City's disaster relief volunteer network
established by mainly Tono citizen in an effort to support the Iwate
Prefecture Seaboard disaster area (Otsuchi, Kamaishi, Ofunato and
Rikuzen Takata) hit by the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake on March 11,
2011. In co-operation with Tono City Council of Social Welfare, the net
is working for the delivery of relief goods and coordination of
volunteers as a gateway to the disaster area.
東日本大震災で被災した岩手県沿岸部（大槌町・釜石市・大船渡市・陸前高田市）を支援するため遠野市民が中心になって結成された遠野市災害支援ボランティ
アネットワークで、物資搬送からボランティアの受け入れ・調整までを遠野市社会福祉協議会と連携しながら行う、とのこと。
予定していた通り、11月4日に日本へ。東京から新花巻まで新幹線で行き、そこからローカル線で遠野まで。活動に必要になるものは現地の事務所に近くのホームセンターでみな揃える。ウィーンで探していたら時間が掛かる。日曜には店が開いていないから土曜日に店をはしごをして探さないといけない。
Our bedroom was gymnasium, which actually belongs to Tono city. Women and men area was split by panel and on the floor were tatami mats. About 60 people in male area for the first day. There was temporally built free shower, wash machine, there is a supermarket very near to the gymnasium. It does not look bad at all. To my surprise I was able to receive WIFI in the gym which is used in organizer team office.
寝室は体育館で、実際には遠野市の施設。女性と男性のエリアはパネルで仕切られ、床には畳が引いてある。男性のエリアにはその日60人ほどが泊まっていた。簡易シャワーに洗濯機、体育館の近くにはスーパーもある。まったく悪くない。驚いたことに事務所のエリアで使っているＷＩＦＩが体育館で受信できる。
